Lying on the table in the surgical room, an assistant to the surgical doctor introduced herself. I do not recall all that was said, I was half out of it from medication.
However, I do remember these words: “I am the harvester. It describes my responsibilities. My job is to harvest some veins for Dr. Florendo to use to replace the arteries to your heart.” It was about at that point that I decided to take a nap until they had completed their fun.
Had I not been already half out of it, my attention would have probably been diverted to the “grim reaper” with his sickle or scythe cutting short my life. Thankfully, that did not cross my mind. It would have added to all the other hallucinations I endured for several days when the medications applied were reacting to this old body.
That word “harvester” has meandered through my brain on numerous occasions of recent. It was the title to our yearbook at College. Thankfully, it had a completely different connotation. In that context it carried the thought of a world without a saving faith in Jesus Christ, needing to hear the simple message of salvation. It has been my wife and my ambitions through life… tell people about Jesus; to trust the Holy Spirit to “woo them to God through His moving.”
I think often of my classmates that went to different parts of the globe to “harvest: Brazil, Liberia, Iceland, Sweden, Great Britain, The Arab community of Washington, D.C., a predominantly black community in Chicago, Jewish people around the world, New Guinea, Chile, Alaska, along with other countries. Many scattered across this country laboring faithfully, full-time or part time, to “harvest” for Christ. There were only 25 or so to graduate that year, but our group, as a whole, has been “harvesters”.
We want you to know that there is only one way to Heaven and eternity with God. It is the way He provided through His Son, Jesus. Jesus said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, but through Me.” (John 14:6 NASB) Forget the idea that “all religions lead to heaven”; there is only one way and it is through the Lord Jesus Christ. “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” (John 4:35b) Believe and be saved!
