As I write this, it is simply because my garage is too hot to work in…117 Degrees. Even though while out there with a couple of fans running, one of them being a “swamp cooler”. That is how we refer to these machines where the wind goes across a filter of water. When the humidity is high, it is equal to a sweat box. When it is down to 12 percent, as it is today, it is supposed to be helpful.
I have had a few “smart-aleck” friends tell me that they are preparing themselves for the future, where they will spend eternity. It is easy enough to make light of a Scriptural teaching when one wants to blindly or lightly make fun of a real place, to which they are heading, or of a Savior who they refuse to be subject to in this life. Heaven and Hell are real places, just as sure as the period at the end of this sentence.
I quote a composite of what Don Fleming said: “Heaven is the dwelling place not only of God, but also of the angelic beings who worship Him.” (Neh. 9:6; Matthew 18:10, 28:2; Mark 13:32; Luke 2:15) Jesus Christ came from Heaven (John 3:31 6:38) returned to Heaven after His death and resurrection (Acts 1:11; Ephesians 1:20), at present appears in Heaven on behalf of His people (Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 8:1; 9:24) and will one day return from heaven to save His people and judge His enemies (Acts 1:ll; 1 Thess. 4:16,17; 2 Thess. 1:7-9).
According to the New Testament, another composite by Fleming, “the punishment of hell (gehenna) is one of eternal torment.” It is likened to eternal burning (Matthew 13:42; 18:8, 9; Revelation 20:10, eternal darkness (Matt. 8:12; 22:13; 2 Peter 3:7-10), eternal destruction (Matt. 7:13; Phil. 1:28; 2 Peter 3:7, 10) and eternal separation from God and His blessing (2 1Thess. 1:9).
According to Scripture ones eternal destiny depends completely on whether we accept the person of Jesus Christ as our Savior and Intercessor, or not. There is no in-between. I have to believe Him and serve Him. Eternity future is dependent on what I do mentally, emotionally and obediently toward His sacrifice on my behalf at CALVARY!
Give serious thought to His claim, His perfect sacrifice as our representative on Calvary. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12,1 3)
