My friend had a pile of rocks on which he had painted places and dates he had visited.  I can imagine that after many years of living in the Navy, and being on a ship, he wanted to remember specific things about “terra firma”!

Then there are those who are enamored with items that are from history past, and especially those related to the person of our Lord Jesus, whether it be “the shroud of Turin” or a splinter from the cross on which Jesus died.  They remain infatuated with the possibilities surrounding them.

On one occasion, when a crowd had gathered around and following Jesus, a “synagogue official” came and “fell at his feet”.  His interest was in the healing of his daughter.  However, while the crowd persisted we have a brief history of a woman who was present.  She had a sickness, a hemorrhage, for twelve years.  She had spent all her savings on physicians, without experiencing healing and had only grown worse.

“On hearing about Jesus” she thought within herself: “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” (In another place it is said: “the hem of His garment”).  There is little to explain the difference between this woman and the “synagogue official”, only an identification of importance in people’s minds.

Jesus asked a very simple question – “Who touched My garments?”  He knew who it was, yet he allowed her to identify herself.  Naturally, the disciples immediately wanted to belittle the situation.  However, that woman, who had experienced healing knew exactly what had happened, she “fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.”

I would guarantee that there are those who would love to have a piece of His supposed garments!  By now, it would probably be worn out from their touching it on occasion.  Who knows?

Most importantly in this record is what the Savior, Jesus, said at that very moment.  “Daughter, your faith has made you well, go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”

You do not need a “piece of His garment” but you do need faith in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ if you want healing.  While physical healing may be desired, a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will bring spiritual healing!
