Tomorrow is the first Sunday in Advent. Why and how should we celebrate Christmas? Is it to see the Santa Claus Parade (if there is one in this COVID 19 year)? Is it to indulge ourselves? After all, Christmas comes but once in a year. Is it a golden opportunity for the already-struggling businesses to improve the ‘bottom line’ for the year? (Unfortunately for them, on-line shopping is an attractive option.)
No! The real reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is unique in world history as attested to by His amazing attributes, which include the following.
In Biology, He was born without the normal conception. (Matthew 1:21)
In History, He is the beginning and the end. (Revelation 1:8)
In Government, “He shall be called wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
In Chemistry, He turned water to wine. (John 2:1-10)
In Economics, He disproved the Law of Diminishing Returns by feeding 5000 men (in addition to women and children) with two fishes and five loaves of bread. (Matthew 14:13-21)
In Religion, He declared, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
In Physics, He overcame the Law of Gravity, when He ascended into Heaven. (Acts 1:8-1)
But, what about the future? One day, Jesus will return to earth – no longer as the helpless Babe but as John saw in his vision: “Now the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (See Revelation 11: 15.)
JESUS: The Real Reason for the Season. Celebrate Him!
