Every now and again, someone comes up with a question such as this: “Have you ever felt as though your decision to have Christ first and foremost in your life was not your wisest choice; that you have missed out on much of the fun that you enjoyed prior to that decision and maybe, just maybe, you should have taken up a different profession?
I know, you probably think to yourself that people would not ask something like that! Get with it, that one is mild as compared with others that have been spoken with what I term derision. Answering such questions merely makes me silently ask the Lord to “give wisdom and congeniality as I present my answer”. After all, I could have continued in my profession in banking, but this was a call from the Lord, through His Holy Spirit. Nothing could have been more exciting!
As my “springboard”, I am going to solicit some thoughts from Romans 5. I could easily have chosen other portions of the Scripture, this will suffice. The Apostle Paul utilized the little phrase “much more” which says how I feel about my salvation and subsequent call to the ministry.
The first one I would note is in verse 9…”Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” Second: (2) “Much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (3) “Much more did the grace of God and the gift by the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.” (4) “Much more those who receive the abundance of grace and the righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” (5) “The law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”
It was His GRACE that imputed to me HIS righteousness, and with it came all those subsequent accompaniments. I must then ask simply: “To what in the world would I look back to that would equal this privilege or opportunity?” The “bumps” in the road cannot compare with the mountain tops that have accompanied serving our Lord.
