Is Jesus Christ part of the daily routine of your life?
While reading Luke 9 today, I was made aware of that little word “daily”. Thus, the reason for my question at the beginning!
Jesus had asked the question, “But, who do you say that I am? Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.” It was a straightforward answer concerning Christ’s identity. It is a question that has been continued to this day, 2020 years later. It bears an answer to each of us today. It cannot be escaped! Who do you, I, believe that Jesus Christ is?
Jesus immediately identified Himself! However, in doing so, He made it known that the identity of the person prophesied in the Old Testament as the Christ to come was in their midst and that He was that person. Even so, as He proceeded to do this, there was obviously confusion in the minds of the disciples. They anticipated that the promised King would assume His reign at that time. They did not contemplate the mountain peak and valley that preceded that rule and reign.
Jesus then revealed many details of the coming three years concerning Himself! If they chose to follow Him, there was something that they would be required: “He must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me.” This was not some simple activity to pursue, this was a DAILY COMMITMENT. It was following a person who would be an imposter in the minds of many. There would not be any accolades in their choice and thus that DAILY commitment. It would never be the most favorable choice. The end result would inevitably lead to a choice of “to save one’s life” or “lose his life. No easy choice.
The discussion continues with a very solemn presentation: “For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself? For whosoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.” (Luke 9:23-26)
If one follows the Lord Jesus, it is because they have made a choice. They can look into the details of what to expect, but it will not be a “routine” choice of something well-accepted. However, it will invariably become the most significant choice of their life, and it will become the most popular person of history that a one can choose. It leads to a “DAILY” routine. It leads to a RISE and SHINE! It leads to eternal rewards.
