For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves.
As the car maneuvered into its parking spot, I recognized that it was not a parking area at all for the painted lines that graced the area clearly indicated that parking was not permitted. However, the driver felt that what he was doing was A-OK because the sign on the back of his car said:”CLERGY”. Obviously he felt that he was above and beyond the law because he was a member of such a “select group”. Personally, I was offended by this behavior. A friend recently said that he got a ticket from the policeman when he made a “California” stop. I have always thought that STOP meant just that… STOP. He gave the policeman a piece of his mind, which he could ill afford. Another thing that aggravates me is the person who illegally parks in the handicapped area. Equally annoying is the person whose car has handicapped plates but the driver at the juncture, alone, is obviously not handicapped. He could have parked in another location.
Obviously these types of people have become a “law unto themselves”. They honestly believe or have convinced themselves into believing… “that does not mean me.” Interestingly enough, there is in every generation a group of people who literally become “a law unto themselves” (Romans 2:14). They determine from human, depraved, and unregenerate minds what is and is not acceptable in human conduct. God is not considered as a final source of authority. The Word of God is treated with contempt; selected parts are declared acceptable or unacceptable as having come from God. But, Lo! Contextually, God declares that He shall “judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel”. (Romans 2:16) It is our endeavor to proclaim the whole counsel of God that man might become whole. Isaiah said that apart from the wholeness given us by God’s righteousness, we remain as putrefying sores. Accept the Bible! Heed its message! Embrace its Savior, JESUS CHRIST.
