FAITH

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1

The dictionary gives faith several meanings: 1) Allegiance to duty or a person: LOYALTY. 2) Belief and trust in God. 3) Complete trust. 4) A system of religious beliefs.

Hebrews 11: 1, gives us a beautiful description: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” The remainder of that chapter of Scripture goes on to illustrate how those who believed and trusted God experienced victory upon victory.

I stood watching the 100 plus people who were meandering through the Pumpkin Patch, (not really a field of pumpkins, just hundreds to purchase and a hay-ride through the trees) as the man walked up to me to chat. Our conversation quickly drifted into Scriptural beliefs and he said: “I was an atheist!” Naturally, I said: “Tell me about it!” He shared how he fought with ideas and a friend, and finally settled in His mind the direction to go to determine if God really existed. One night before he went to bed he said: “God, if you really exist I need to know. Wake me tomorrow morning at 8.00. The next morning when I woke it was 3.00 minutes to eight. That was a miracle and God condescended to my ignorance. If anybody does not believe in God, just ask Him.” I am always ready for fun, so after acknowledging his experience I said: “God was on time; your clock was off by 3.00 minutes.”

Have you ever asked God to confirm His existence one way or another because you in honesty want to know?

I did not know anything about faith in Jesus Christ, but the moment I invited Him to be my Savior and Lord, I suddenly discovered that my faith exploded and I realized who He really was. To every man is given faith, it is God who in love, mercy, and grace activates it.

Like that brother said: “Ask Him!”
