Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O Lord.
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 83:16-18

The Book of Psalms contains within it those which are described as Imprecatory Psalms. The author, of this Psalm 83 is in this case, Asaph. The enemies that are referred to are multiple and their efforts against Israel are quite descriptive. They hate God and exalt themselves. (v2) They make “shrewd” plans against Israel and “conspire together”. You have no problem identifying such horrific surroundings if you are alert to the devil and his antics. Your enemies need not be on another continent.

Look at the descriptive words that appear in this Psalm. “They hate you (God), they exalt themselves, they make shrewd plans against Your people, they conspire together” and “they have said, ‘Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation. that the name of Israel be remembered no more’.” What they do not comprehend is what the old preacher said a long time ago about such antics, “your arms are too short to box with God”.

In the middle of these words appeared some words that I purposely skipped over: “Your treasured ones” which of course referred to Israel. Some of those who have taken effort then and now to destroy Israel “that they be remembered no more”, have and will discover that they continue to exist, and will continue to exist, because what was said is they are God’s “treasured ones”. Behind those words lies another, “hidden”. They are God’s hidden, the treasured of HIS choice.

I would not dare leave out the fact that with the death and resurrection of Jesus, the Church, and I refer to every true believer in Christ as their personal Lord and Savior; those who allow Him to be supreme in their lives are also “treasured”.

And behind it all are verses 16-18, “They may seek Your name, O Lord… They may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.” Amen & Amen!!!
