CONSIDER THE ANT

Say what you want about the illegals in our country, but having worked around many of them over the years, I have not found them to be lazy. They came across the border to find work so that they might send money back home to support their family, and that is what the majority have done. I can guarantee that I find few natural born citizens who will “lower” themselves to do the work that is being done by these folk.

It is evident these days that we are staggering under the disease of “lazyitis”. You may prefer to call it “tireditis” if you choose. There is an attitude of, “I should not have to exert myself in this heat, and for such a low income while my boss is getting wealthier each day.”

Proverbs 6:6-19 indicates that instead of shunning work, we should be observant of the “ant”. They have no specific one to lead the group, but they know that in due time the weather will change, and without a large amount of storage, hunger will devastate their colony. I have taken time to observe them in action and feel worn out from the observation.

The wise man rebukes that person who shuns work, sleeps endlessly, and invites poverty to his door. Granted that may not be his intention initially, however the end result is that “it will come in like a vagabond, and your need like an armed man. Later in the chapter he says: “his calamity will come suddenly; instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.”

Do we need all the “toys” that everyone else has? Are we grasping at every straw, to the point of achieving “money”? Has silver and gold been more enamored in our thinking than sufficiency? Must we be entertained constantly, at great expense? Are we conscious that a little hard work is earning income and not having to pay for a gym and exercise program? The ideas are endless!

Try studying the ant! Lest one forget, try the Apostle Paul’s admonition: “If anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat either.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10)
