“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”John 14:27
In the midst of the throes of Christmas, for that is what it has become in our secularized society, we begin to receive cards that speak of PEACE. If only the idea could be actualized by men and women throughout the world; would it not become a paradise overnight? When Christ returns and establishes His millennial reign, that will take place.
In the interim, as we await the return of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, He left us a multiplicity of provisions for the enablement of peace and its enjoyment. In John 14:27 He said: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let you heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
He had just made them a promise concerning “another helper”, which He would send to carry on what He had begun. One of the major provisions would be the Holy Spirit, “whom the world cannot receive” (v16). The reason is that “the world” cannot “see”, nor know, or comprehend the person of Christ, or the person of the Holy Spirit.
In the midst of chaos on every hand, we rest in peace. We should and can do this because we are allowing the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Triune God, to rule and reign in our hearts and lives. We utilize His power to produce Peace in spite of the chaos that surrounds us.
Jesus said He would send another of the same kind. PEACE!
